Maksutov-Cassegrain Item ID: #339![]() Orion StarMax 90mm TableTop Mak-Cass TelescopeProduct Information:
Item DescriptionWhoever coined the phrase âbig things come in small packagesâ, would have definitely applied that expression to our new StarMax 90 TableTop Refractor. This ultra-compact Mak-Cass gives surprisingly big views for an instrument of its modest size, making it an elegant first telescope or a great grab-and-go second telescope! The long, 1250mm (f/13.8) focal length gives the StarMax 90 TableTop some serious magnifying power â the included 25mm and 10mm 1.25â Super Plossl eyepieces yield powers of 50x and 125x, respectively. It collects over 25% more light than its GoScope 80 cousin, and up to 225% more light than a 60mm refractor telescope. So youâTMll be able to enjoy planetary delights such as lunar landscapes, SaturnâTMs rings and JupiterâTMs moons. As you scan the Milky Way, youâTMll also be able to pull in some open and globular star clusters, as well as a nebula or two. The tube assembly of the StarMax 90mm TableTop Refractor Telescope is attached to a stable swivel base, via a quick-release dovetail mount with adjustable altitude tension. The tube can easily be removed from the base and mounted on an optional photo tripod. The small swivel base itself can also be mounted on a camera tripod with a 8â screw. A red-dot view finder, internal focuser (which moves the primary lens back and forth) and included 45-degree correct image diagonal round out the features of this compact, yet surprisingly capable, Mak Cass telescope. I recieved the starmax a few days ago….was well packaged. The OTA is of high quality and the eyepieces that are supplied are marked orion plossls. The catalog says 10mm and 25 kellners….Anyway they seem good quality. The small dobsonian style mount is ok for the job ( I mounted the whole setup on an old bogen photo tripod)because the starmax is so lt. wt.( you could probably mount a short tube 80 on it too.) Finally got a chance last night to test it out. Weather has been lousy for weeks, but briefly the sky partially cleared for a clear view of the moon. I have a celestron 8-24 zoom eyepiece I used and the moon was great. At max zoom The scope was at 156x….razor sharp views of craters. Tried to take a stab at mars, but visability deteriorated quickly. For $199 its hard to wrong. The supplied redot finder is very user friendly too.
